Firefly Aerospace

Firefly Aerospace is an American aerospace company headquartered in Cedar Park, Texas, focused on enabling reliable, responsive, and cost-efficient access to space. The company designs, manufactures, and operates launch vehicles and spacecraft systems for government and commercial customers, positioning itself at the forefront of the rapidly evolving space economy. Firefly Aerospace has achieved significant national and global milestones across 2024, 2025, and 2026. Most notably, the company successfully executed its Blue Ghost lunar mission, delivering payloads to the Moon under NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative, marking a major step forward in commercial lunar operations. In parallel, Firefly has continued to scale its launch and spacecraft programs, demonstrating increasing reliability and cadence across its Alpha launch vehicle and in-space services platforms. This sustained growth and technical success culminated in Firefly’s initial public offering (IPO), positioning the company as one of the most prominent publicly traded commercial space firms in the United States. Together, these achievements underscore Firefly’s trajectory as a leader in the new space economy and reinforce Cedar Park’s role as a strategic hub for aerospace innovation.

The Project

Since first partnering with Cedar Park in 2014, Firefly Aerospace has experienced significant growth, expanding its capabilities to include advanced rocket systems, spacecraft development, and lunar landers. In February 2021, Firefly was awarded a $93.3 million contract by NASA to deliver payloads to the Moon, reinforcing its role as a leader in next-generation space exploration.

Cedar Park’s City Council approved an economic development agreement with Firefly Aerospace on May 27, 2021, supporting the company’s initial expansion into a 45,000-square-foot facility at Scottsdale Crossing Technology Center, representing approximately $6 million in capital investment and the creation of 682 high-skilled jobs with an average salary of $90,000.

Building on this foundation, Firefly has continued to significantly expand its headquarters and spacecraft design operations in Cedar Park, now totaling more than 90,000 additional square feet of space. This latest phase of growth includes new facilities to support engineering, mission operations, and advanced spacecraft development, along with plans to create approximately 300 additional high-tech jobs and invest millions in new capital improvements.

Firefly’s continued expansion further strengthens Cedar Park and Williamson County as a growing hub for aerospace innovation, aligning with regional efforts such as the Central Texas Spaceport Development Corporation to advance research, testing, and commercialization within the space economy.
